Poem Du Jour: Haiku, Too

sleeping oak trees wake,
blossoming buds bloom anew—
fresh hands wave “hello.”
Already (just two three days in) falling behind in my efforts to acknowedleg National Poetry Month by crafting a poem a day (poem du jour!). In order to keep up the pace, I will need to do a few different things, including at least for today yesterday, sharing a previously produced poem.

The haiku above is the product of an activity I did with my eighth grade class last April 1. In class I had introduced the idea of writing Dueling Haikus. In doing so, I worked with one lad on writing one about Spring, leaving him to complete the opposing verse about the Fall season. The haiku above is the prodcut of that (quick) effort. Here's what I came up with

Breathe in, breathe out… YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
